New Post: Headless installer
↧
Edited Feature: Silent Install required [7550]
The following discussion took place over email before this site was up and running - I have copied over the salient parts of the emails (between Henry Rzepa at Imperial, Peter Murray-Rust and Joe Townsend at Cambridge) to this discussion board to open it up to the community. --------- We are trying to install Chem4Word for a class of computers, for forthcoming labs. When doing so, it is necessary to have a "silent" installer (or at least the answers to any prompts must be capable of being added to a script). I gather also that for a class, the location of all appropriate files must NOT BE in the local user filespace but in generic space (Program files, etc). Nick can probably fill you in for the details of which files and locations are causing the problems? I forgot to add that we are doing everything now for Windows 7; I suspect Chem4Word has not yet been fully tested for this environment? (HR)

Edited Issue: Does not appear in the Ribbon [7549]
This is in connection with issue number 7535.
I also have the same issue. No EP upon installation but I have noticed something that I think has something to do with it. On the first screenshot Chem4Word add-in is included under Inactive Application add-ins, however as I've tried to have it added and tick the box, it gives me an error "This add-ins is installed for all the users on this computer, and can only be connected or disconnected by an administrator" as what is shown in screenshot2. The computer we are using has 2 users, one is for the admin and 2nd is for free use. We used to download the addin using the free user login but due to this error, we tried to login using the Admin login but still prompting the same error. Please help us out on this issue :)

Created Feature: Example Docs [7554]
I am NOT a chemistry teacher but I do train them on using new software like the Chem Word add-in. Does anyone know of a place where I can find Word docs that incorporate the Chem add-in functionality? I feel that I would just botch the worksheets, which would be a bit embarrassing! :)

Hello Everybody. I have an issue concerning to Chemistry for word. I have downloaded the add-in successfully. But, ribbon in word 2007 doesn't show it. On further investigation I found that the software is in "inactive add-ins". I followed the instructions but all in vain. Is there anybody who may help me. Thanks in advance.

Created Feature: Gallery needs more structures [7556]
My daughter is in high school in the IB program and I am trying to create some chemistry flashcards for her and want to use chem4word to create the 2D structures. I am just getting started but I am wondering if I should try re-installing because the user guide says the add-in comes with several hundred examples but the gallery only seems to have half a dozen or so. As my daughter is the chem student, forgive my lack of chemisty background. Should there be more in the gallery? I was unsuccessful importing from the two options but I will try that again. Can you also please add me to the group? thanks

Created Feature: Automatic numbering of compounds [7557]
Hi guys, find it really great that Microsoft finally engages in Chemistry! It's good for us and probably worth while for the company (look at the current prices for the drawing Software: EUR 2500 for ChemDraw!).
I would personally find it quite useful, if the plugin could number the compounds in text (e. g. Benzene (#)).
Does someone know, whether there is a way to get the zones numbered, or is there any other way for MS Word 2010 to recognize and number the compounds?
Would really appreciate your input guys, have deadlines for my research-proposal right now

New Post: Suggestions for Html5 Chemistry Editor
All,
One of the things suggested in the PMC meeting today was the concept of adding a molecule editor. I did a quick search and there's one available at http://web.chemdoodle.com/. It's licensed under the GPL 3 but I THINK we'd still be able to use it as long as we'd keep the editor code licensed under the GPL 3 and keep anything under our current license. (we could relicense Chem4Word under GPL 3 as well if we'd want to). If we consider using it, I'll work out the legal issues a little more.
Also, if anyone has other suggestions for an editor here, feel free to post on this thread!

All,
I had a very quick play with it earlier it looks good, allows you to save the drawings to lots of file formats and it reads from MOLFiles (MDL Format) or ChemDoodle JSON.
Clyde and I (and probably Andy) have had several years of experience with them.
I will try to see if the MDL file format is still publicly available.

All,
MDL MolFile Format is part of publicly available "Chemical table file" specification.
Found a link to "Chemical table file" on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_table_file
