Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - This version replaces all user document references with a reference to Chem4Word.dotx AND it erases all user document macros. The ability to input chemistry is OK (still has some issues), but the destruction of the rest of the user's Word customization is not acceptable.

After installing Chem4Word, all document references to Normal.dotm are replaced by references to Chem4Word.dotx. All my Word customizations are lost! The Add-In list for each document must now be reworked by hand. The install sequence should have added Chem4Word.dotm as a Global template so the base user template is not impacted.
Comments: This issue is caused by the Chemistry gallery being stored in the template. We are working on a mechanism to store the gallery elsewhere so that we don't have to replace Normal.dotx with Chem4Word.dotx.

Hi there,
Yesterday I found your tool Chem4Word because I searched for a tool to create chemical formulas.
I downloaded version 2.0.1.0 beta. This is the first version I installed on my computer which is equipped with Windows 7 x64 and Office 2010.
After finishing the setup I could launch the Add-in and start creating a formula. Then I tried to use the "Import" function and played with it. There was an error message that the web service did not found anything.
From this point the Add-in stopped working completely. Whenever I call the function "Draw structure" a message box appears with German dialog:
An error has occurred
Die Methode oder der Vorgang sind nicht implementiert.
I tried to repair the setup from installer but the problem stays as written above.
So I decided to uninstall it and after a reboot of the laptop the Add-in was no longer shown.
I tried to use the stable version 1.6.1 but even this version comes with the same error message.
Therefore I tried 2.0.1.0 again but it's no longer working. It seems that something was modified which even an uninstall action does not remove from my computer.
What can I do now?

Can you please translate the error message into english? * Can you please try deleteing the contents of the folder "C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Chemistry Add-in for Word" and try again? * Can you also please attach some screen shots and details of what you were searching for?

Comments: Since Chem4Word attaches itself as the primary template to every Word document that is opened, why not simply add Chem4Word.dotx as a Global template and leave the user specified template untouched?

Comments: Hi Stephen, As I mentioned earlier Chem4Word uses Chem4Word.dotx to store the gallery. I have looked at the code again and we store and re-call the gallery items as BuildingBlockEntries. As far as I can tell this can ONLY be done with a template which is attached, hence when a word document is opened the Add-In checks to see if the attached template is Chem4Word.dotx. If not it re-attaches it. Sorry I don't think it is possible to store BuildingBlockEntries in a non attached template. /Mike

Comments: That is too bad. I cannot survive with an Add-In that always wants to be in charge and is happy to throw away the customer's working environment. For my purposes I can survive quite well by uninstalling Chem4Word and importing the chemical diagrams directly from pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. If you get this problem resolved, drop me a note and I will try it again. Thanks.

Comments: We are thinking about have an option to prevent the attaching of our template, but this will disable the gallery and has to be thoroughly tested. We will keep this thread updated with progress.
